The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest sights in the world — the longest wall in the world, an awe-inspiring feat of ancient defensive architecture and one of the seven wonders of the world. Its winding path over rugged country and steep mountains takes in some great scenery.
So which section part of the Great Wall is the best?
Generally speaking, “more attractive” means “more remote”. For most travellers, the public sections of the Great Wall mean safe (i.e. well organized in terms of ticket sales, access, etc.) and convenient (i.e. shuttle bus & cable car). The majority of clients prefer the sections of Mutianyu or Jinshanling.
If you enjoy hiking, I can highly recommend trekking the Great Wall from Jiankou to Mutianyu, or the route from Guobeikou to Jinshanling.
The best advice, however, I can offer is to skip Badaling & Shuiguan. These sections are always overrun with local & international tourists. Numerous “shopping opportunities” (even on the wall itself) can be very annoying also.
